Specification of Forged Steel Flanges

Forged steel flange is a disc-shaped piece of equipment used to connect a pipe to fittings or valve or other component to form a pipework system. Usually flange has been attached to pipe or tube end to, and then a gasket is inserted in the middle to form a seal. Finally they are joined together with bolts and nuts.

You can see in the upon chart, alloy steel grade used for forged steel flanges, mainly include ASTM A182 F11/12/22/5/9/91/92, their chemical element content are different makes them have different physical and mechanical properties. When we choose a kind of alloy steel to produce the socket weld flange, we will have a alloy steel socket weld flange.

Different Chemical Elements and their effect in the metal

Alloy steel socket weld flange will be used in the high pressure and resistant to corrosion environment because the alloy steel material has below elements.

(1)Chromium – Adds hardness.

(2)Cobalt –Improve hot Hardness (or red Hardness).

(3)Manganese – Increases surface hardness

(4)Molybdenum – Increases strength.

(5)Nickel – Increases strength & toughness and resistance.

(6)Tungsten – Adds hardness and improves grain structure.

(7)Vanadium – Improved corrosion resistance.

(8)Chromium-Vanadium – Greatly improved tensile strength.
