Introduction of ASME B16.11 Socket Weld Tee
ASME B16.11 is the standard for the forged steel fittings, which includes socket weld and threaded type. Material carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel are included.
ASME B16.11 socket weld tee is applied for welding pipes and fittings. Socket weld pipe tees are used to permanently join pipes that are inserted into a recess in the fitting, flange or valve. Once correctly inserted, fillet type sealing welds are applied to join the pipe to the fitting.
A socket weld tee can combine or divide fluid flow. Tees can connect pipes of different diameters, change the direction of a pipe run, or both. Available in various materials, sizes and finishes, tees may also be used to transport two-fluid mixtures.
Pressure Rating of Socket Weld Tee
ASME B16.11 socket weld tee generally come in three different pressure ratings, Class 3000/6000/9000. The most common size of the socket weld fitting is from 1/2 inch up to 4 inch. All of these pressure fittings generally are not used beyond 4 inches.

Difference Between Socket Weld and Butt Weld
ASEM B16.11 Socket Weld Tee
ASME B16.9 Butt Weld Tee
Socket weld fittings fit over the outside of the pipe that they’ll be welded to; butt weld is the welding of two of the same sized diameters joined end to end.
Inspection and Package
Visual the surface of socket weld fittings such as dents, die marks, porosity.
Check the marking such as size, grade, pressure, standard.
Measure dimensions such as outside diameter, thickness, socket dimensions.
Test the chemical composition of ASME B16.11 socket weld tee.
