What is the Slip On Flange
ASME B16.5 Slip on flanges are a form of flat welding flange. Flat welding is only used to weld the outer layer, not the inner layer. In general, a flat welding flange, such as an ASME B16.5 class 600 slip on flange, may be utilized in both medium and low-pressure pipelines.
Slip on flanges are most common type of flanges and good for lower pressure applications. It is a simple and excellent alternative to a weld neck as it does not have a weld bevel. There is no pipe schedule for reference while using, because its inside diameter is depending on the pipe outside diameter. That's good for stockist.
The nominal pressure of these pipes with Tapped Slip On Flange is less than 2.5 MPa. Fillet welding is done after the ASEM B16.5 slip on flange with raised face class 300 is put over the pipe. API 6A SO RF flanges are straightforward to use in fabricated applications.

(3) flanged fittings with rating class designation 400, 600, 900, and 1500 in sizes NPS 1/2 through NPS 24 and flanged fittings with rating class designation 2500 in sizes NPS 1/2 through NPS 12 that are acknowledged in Non-Mandatory Appendix E in which only U.S. Customary units are provided.
How Do Slip On Flange Work
ASME B16.5 slip on flange must be slid into the pipe before welding. In this case it is a double weld, both inside and outside, thus providing the durability they need to avoid leaks. Their pressure resistance is rated at approximately 2/3 of that of a welding neck flange. Slip on flanges are suitable for low-pressure applications and are easy to install and weld onto different pipes. In addition, welding helps to reduce manufacturing costs.
Slip on flange do not require a large longitudinal space in the line to be mounted. In addition, they do not require an exact cut in the pipe, and are less difficult to align.
Applications of Slip On Flange
They are mainly used for fluids at low pressure or with little risk of leakage. It is very common to find these flanges today in cooling water lines, firefighting water lines, low-pressure compressed air lines, and process lines for substances such as steam, oil, gas, condensates, etc. But always keeping in mind that the material to be distributed is at low pressure and the working conditions are not demanding.
