On May 20, 2025, we received an inquiry email from an old Italian customer. This partner who has been working with us for many years is looking for a batch of key components for a new project - ASTM A234 WP11 180 degree elbow. As a long-term trusted supplier, we are well aware that behind this inquiry, it is not only a recognition of our product quality, but also an expectation of our service efficiency. After completing the quotation, the customer placed an order with us a week later.
Shanghai Zhucheng Pipe Fittings Manufacturing Co Ltd.is a company specializing in the production and processing of pipes and fittings. The pipes and pipe fittings we produce are mainly used in the fields of chemical industry, petroleum, natural gas, water conservancy, electric power, marine engineering, etc. The products mainly include seamless pipes, welded pipes, butt-welded pipe fittings, high-pressure forged pipe fittings and flanges of various sizes. The materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, low-temperature steel, duplex steel, base alloy, etc.
1. Outside Diameter (OD) and Inside Diameter (ID):
Measurement location: Usually measured at the grooves at both ends of the elbow.
Purpose: To ensure that the inner and outer diameters match the connected pipes and ensure the consistency of the welding grooves.
2. Wall Thickness:
Measurement location: Multi-point measurement is performed at various parts of the elbow, especially at key locations such as inner and outer arcs and pipe ends.
Purpose: To ensure that the wall thickness meets the requirements of the drawings or standards, especially the minimum value cannot be lower than the specified value (such as not less than 87.5% of the nominal wall thickness), which is directly related to the pressure bearing capacity.
3. Center-to-Center (O):
Measurement location: Measure the distance between the center lines of the pipe ends of the 180-degree elbow.
Purpose: This is one of the most important dimensions of the 180-degree elbow, which directly affects the pipeline layout and installation accuracy. ASME B16.9 has clear provisions for this.

Long Radius (LR) 180 degree elbow:
The bending radius (R) is equal to 1.5 times the nominal diameter (1.5D). This elbow has low fluid resistance and gentle flow direction changes, which is more suitable for systems that require smooth flow.
Short Radius (SR) 180 degree elbow:
The bending radius (R) is equal to 1 times the nominal diameter (1D). This elbow takes up little space, but the fluid resistance is relatively large, and is usually used in places where space is limited or the fluid velocity is low.

Heat exchangers and boilers: As U-shaped tube bundles or return pipes, used for heat exchange and circulation of steam, water or other media.
Oil, gas and petrochemical industries: High-pressure, high-temperature or low-temperature fluid transportation pipelines, especially in areas requiring compact layout.
Power industry: Steam and condensate piping systems in power plants.
High-pressure vessel connection: As a connection component for pressure vessels or pipeline manifolds, it realizes the reverse flow of fluids.
