What is a Thread Plug
ASME B16.11 Threaded plug from plugs offer many advantages for product protection. These plugs can be inserted into threaded openings, providing a more stable and consistent seal and preventing dirt, moisture or other contaminants from affecting your threads
A plug is a male threaded fitting which seals the end run of a pipe when fitted into a female threaded fitting. An end cap is a female threaded fitting and is threaded over the end of a piece of pipe to seal it off.
Pipe plugs are used in the closing of the ends of various hydraulic or pneumatic pipes or tubes. Plugs are essential devices used in the plumbing apparatus of both industrial and domestic water supply lines, machinery and so on. They are also for removal of air blocks on water pump lines.
What is class 2000 threaded fittings
Threaded carbon steel fittings attached to carbon steel pipe to convey gas and water, safeguard electrical wires, or supply high-pressure steam and air are Class 2000 Threaded Fittings.
Carbon steel malleable iron fittings, also known as uncoated carbon steel and iron fittings, are built of corrosion-resistant ungalvanized steel with a scaly, dark-colored iron oxide covering. In piping systems, these fittings are used to change direction or connect to equipment or devices. Pressure Class 2000 Threaded Fittings are twist-on fittings that use male and female thread connectors to connect to the pipe.
Threaded fittings are available in a wide range of sizes and forms. Threaded fittings of Class 2000 connect to medium- to high-pressure (300-3000 psi) pipe. Threaded fittings twist onto pipe utilizing various male and female thread connections such as NPT (National Pipe Thread) or BSPT (British Standard Pipe Thread) (British Standard Pipe Taper).
Specification for Thread Plug
Hex Head Plug
Round Head Plug
Square Head Plug
There are 3 types of threaded plug that hex head, round head and square head. Pipe plugs are used as end caps for fractional pipes in many industries. These pipe plugs are used by inserting them into the end pipe to block the flow.

What test for Class 2000 Thread plug
The Contractor shall conduct a hydrostatic test of the line after installing a water main or a segment of the line and before the joints are covered in asme b16.11 class 2000 pressure rating.
Before performing the test, leave enough time for the concrete thrust blocks to cure. Before testing, backfilling and compaction over and around the pipes and thrust blocks must be completed, except for the pipe joints, which must be left open to inspect any leaks.
Standard for ASME B16.11 Thread Plug
ASME B16.11 is the standard for the forged steel fittings, including socket weld and threaded type. Material including carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel. Also described as Class 2000, 3000, 6000 threaded end fittings and Class 3000, 6000, and 9000 for socket weld end fittings.
This standard contains pressure-temperature ratings, dimensions, tolerances, markings and material requirements for forged and threaded forged fittings. The relevant contents will be shown in below tables in this article.
This standard does not require a pressure test, but the fittings shall be able to withstand the hydrostatic test pressure required by the applicable pipe code to accommodate seamless pipe of material equivalent to the fittings forging and of the schedule or wall thickness associated with the fittings grade and end connection.
