Equatorial Guinea Oil Rig Project

On November 7th, our company received Purchase Order from customer in Equatorial Guinea about Stud Bolts & Nuts. Customers feedback it being used on oil rigs.

What is a Stud Bolts?

A stud bolt is a mechanical fastener having external threads without a head. The external thread is either for the full length of the stud or partially threaded from each end. It uses at least two nuts, one on each side for assembly connection. Stud bolts are available in various sizes, types, and threading patterns.

Types of Stud Bolts

-Fully threaded stud bolt or continuous threaded stud bolt having uniform thread throughout its length.

-Tap end stud bolts having unequal threads from each end and non-threaded center.

Double-end stud bolts having both ends threaded of equal lengths and a non-threaded center.

-Flange Stud bolts: Fully threaded stud bolts with chamfer ends specifically used for flange connections.

-Double-end stud bolt with reduced shank: the non-threaded center part is of a reduced diameter than the actual diameter.

Material of Stud Bolts

ASTM A193 Grade B7 is a standard specification for high tensile alloy steel bolting material for use in high temperature or high-pressure service and other special purpose applications. It covers material specification for bolting used in pressure vessel service, valves, flanges and fittings. ASTM A193 defines both SI (Metric) and inch-pound units.

Grade B7 is a heat-treated chromium-molybdenum (Cr-Mo) alloy steel with minimum tensile strength requirement of 125 ksi, yield 105 ksi, and maximum hardness of 35HRC. Boltport uses Alloy Steel AISI 4140 bar stock or forging stock to produce B7 headed and non-headed bolts. A193 Grade B7 is the most commonly used Bolt specification coupled with A194 Grade 2H Nuts for Bolting Carbon Steel pipeline. A193 B7 bolting is available in metric sizes from M6 to M180 and imperial sizes from 1/4 to 7 inches, in diameter.
