As a professional supplier of steel pipes and fittings for foreign trade export, ASTM A106B steel pipes are an important steel pipe product of our company. Recently, we received an order for carbon steel pipes from an old customer in Singapore. From the order parameters, the product size and wall thickness are both conventional models, laying a good foundation for the efficient promotion of the order. But the customer has raised two key quality requirements, which have become the focus of attention for this order execution.
Firstly, it is necessary to strictly control the size and wall thickness, comply with the dimensional tolerances of American standard steel pipes, and not lower than the wall thickness dimensions of STD and XS.
Secondly, the surface of the steel pipe should be painted evenly, and there should be no rust marks on the appearance.
In order to meet the customer's requirements, we conducted multiple rounds of strict quality inspections before shipment. Ensure that the dimensions, wall thickness, and appearance meet customer requirements.

ASTM A106B steel pipe refers to seamless steel pipe products manufactured in accordance with the material standards established by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). Among them, "A106" is the standard number set by the association for carbon steel seamless steel pipes, and "B" represents a specific grade under this standard; Under this standard, there are two levels: GR. A and GR. C, with GR. B being the most widely used.
This seamless pipe is made of high-quality carbon steel as raw material and is produced through hot rolling or cold drawing (rolling) processes without welded joints. Therefore, it is significantly superior to welded steel pipes in terms of pressure resistance, impact resistance, and structural stability.
According to the ASTM A106 standard, A106B seamless pipe is a commonly used carbon steel pipe with a carbon content of ≤ 0.30% and a manganese content of 0.29% -1.06%.

From the above data, it can be seen that STD wall thickness grade steel pipes have a wall thickness of 9.53MM from 10 inches to 24 inches, while XS wall thickness grade steel pipes have a wall thickness of 12.7mM from 8 inches to 24 inches. The diameter and wall thickness are important factors affecting the weight of steel pipes.
According to the weight calculation formula for carbon steel pipes:
Weight (kg/m)=0.02466 × Wall Thickness (mm) × (Outer Diameter (mm) - Wall Thickness (mm));it can be seen that:
When the wall thickness is fixed: the larger the diameter (outer diameter), the larger the annular cross-sectional area, and the weight increases year-on-year;
When the caliber is fixed: the thicker the wall thickness (XS is thicker than STD), the larger the annular cross-sectional area, and the weight increases year-on-year.
The diameter of the steel pipe in the above picture is 8 "(219.1mm), and the wall thickness is STD (8.18mm).
According to ASME B36.10M standard, the outer diameter tolerance is ± 1.0mm (218.1~220.1mm), and the thickness tolerance is ± 12.5% (7.16~9.2mm).
From the actual measured dimensions in the figure, it can be seen that the diameter of the steel pipe is 219mm and the wall thickness is 8.2mm, which fully meets the standard requirements.
