On May 15, 2025, an old customer from Singapore sent us an inquiry for ASTM A234 WPB 90 degree elbow. As a long-term trusted partner, we are well aware of the customer's stringent requirements for product quality and delivery cycle. The ASTM A234 WPB 90-degree elbows for this inquiry are indispensable key components in pipeline systems in industries such as oil, gas, and chemicals. The WPB grade indicates that these elbows are made of high-quality carbon steel, have excellent strength, pressure resistance, and weldability, and can withstand the test of complex working conditions such as high pressure and high temperature.
From the moment we received the inquiry, our sales, technical, and production teams worked closely together and quickly invested in product confirmation, production scheduling, and quality control. We strictly follow the ASTM A234 standard to ensure that every elbow meets the highest industry standards from raw material procurement to forging, forming, heat treatment, surface treatment, and final testing. · Outside Diameter (O.D.): Measure at multiple points on both ends of the elbow to ensure that it is within the tolerance range specified in the standard.
· Wall Thickness (W.T.): Measure at multiple points on both ends of the elbow and the elbow body (especially on the outside and inside of the elbow, where the wall thickness may change during the forming process) to ensure that it is not less than the minimum allowable wall thickness.
· Tolerance Check: Compare all measured data with the corresponding tolerances specified in ASME B16.9 or other specified standards. ASME B16.9 clearly gives the allowed positive and negative deviations for each dimension.
· Marking Check: Check whether the markings of the elbow (such as material grade, manufacturer name or logo, furnace number, size, wall thickness grade, etc.) are clear, complete and meet the requirements of the standard.

1. Wooden Cases
Suitable for larger, heavier or more numerous elbows, providing sturdy protection and effectively resisting external impact.
2. Wooden Pallets:
For small and medium-sized elbows, they can be neatly stacked on wooden pallets and then fixed with steel straps, strapping tape or wrapping film. Convenient for forklift handling and stacking.
3. Woven Bags / Gunny Bags:
For small, light or fewer elbows, sturdy woven bags or gunny bags are sometimes used for bundling and packaging.
4. Bubble Wrap / Plastic Film / Foam:
These materials are often used for additional protection of the elbow surface to prevent scratches, wear and moisture intrusion. Before packing or palletizing, elbows may be wrapped with these materials individually or in batches.
Additional shock absorption and cushioning: The soft material of felt can effectively absorb shock and vibration, reducing the bumps and scratches caused by the elbows during transportation.
Prevent surface damage: For elbows with special surface treatment (such as polishing, painting, coating), felt can provide a soft barrier to avoid scratches caused by direct friction with other objects or packaging materials.
Dust and moisture resistance (auxiliary): Although the main function is to prevent collision, felt can also block dust to a certain extent, and if combined with a waterproof film, it can also assist in moisture resistance.

Long Radius (LR) 90 Degree Elbow: The center-to-end dimension (radius of curvature) is 1.5 times the nominal pipe size (1.5D). This is the most common type as it offers less pressure drop and turbulence due to a gentler change in direction, making it suitable for systems where flow efficiency is critical.
Short Radius (SR) 90 Degree Elbow: The center-to-end dimension is 1 times the nominal pipe size (1D). These are used in tight spaces where flow efficiency is less critical, or where space constraints dictate.
