ASTM A860 is a standard specification for high-strength ferritic steel materials, mainly for butt welding fittings.ASTM A860 butt welding fittings connects pipes together through welding and is suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure working environments. It is mainly used in petroleum and natural gas pipeline systems.
What Is ASTM A860 Specification
ASTM A860 is a standard developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) for butt-welding fittings. The standard covers aspects such as materials, properties, manufacturing, inspection, and marking to ensure the quality and performance of butt-welding fittings meet the design requirements of pipelines.
Types, Dimension,Material And Manufacturing Process
There are many types of ASTM A860 butt welding fittings ,such as 90deg/45deg elbow、bend、equal/reducing tee、cross、reducer、cap, stub end etc. These fittings can meet different pipeline layout and connection requirements。
A860 butt welding fittings dimensional requirements for 14" and smallerbutt-welding fittings are provided in ASME B16.9.Dimensional requirements for butt-welding fittingslarger than 14: through 48" are provided by MSS-SP-75.
These standards specify the dimensions, tolerances, materials, and testing requirements for butt-welding fittings to ensure their quality and applicability to piping systems with various design requirements.

Hardness:
Fittings under ASTM A860 shall have a maximum hardness of 22 HRC (235 HBW).
Heat Treatment
ASTM A860 butt welding fittings shall be heat treated. Fittings that are formed above transformation temperature or made by welding, shall be cooled down to critical temperature before heat treatment. The methods include normalizing, quenching, tempering or stress relieving under the specification of ASTM A960/960M.
