ASTM A105 flange is a disc-shaped part that is used to connect pipes to each other and also to connect pipes to equipment. Carbon steel flange connects two pipes or pipes to equipment firmly through bolts, nuts and other connectors, and can ensure the sealing of the connection.
According to the structural form and application scenario, ASTM A105 flanges can also be divided into many types, such as slip on flange, weld neck flange, blind flange, lap joint flange, socket weld flange, threaded flange, etc.

ASTM A105 Standard Scope
ASTM A105 covers forged carbon steel flange and piping components for ambient and higher-temperature service in pressure systems. It also includes pipe fittings, valves and similar parts. The maximum weight manufactured forging part follows by this standard is 10000 bounds (4540kg). The larger forgings can according by the standard A 266/A266M. This specification do not covers tube sheets and hollow cylindrical forgings for pressure vessel shells .
This specification does not covers raw material which round bar and seamless tubular produced piping components.
Heat Treatment
Heat treatment is not a mandatory requirement except for flanges above Class 300, flanges of special design where the design pressure or design temperature are not known and for items over 4” NPS and above Class 300. When heat treatment is required, annealing, normalizing, normalize and temper, normalize and quench and tempering shall be the applied methods.
ASTM A105 Flange Specification Material Analysis
The carbon content range is usually 0.35%. In A105 material, this carbon content range makes the material have good strength and can withstand certain pressure and load.

Yield strength is the stress at which a material begins to deform plastically. Yield strength ensures that when A105 is subjected to pressure or tension, it will not undergo irreversible plastic deformation before reaching a certain limit.

What Is The Difference Between A105 And A105N
ASTM A105 flange specification material by default is not normalization heat treated. A105 Flanges are called the Ansi A105n Flanges where the n stands for normalization heat treatment. The heat treatment makes the A105 much harder and stronger.
A105N Flange can be used to fit pipes of two different diameters. One end of the flange corresponds to the diameter of one pipe and the other end of the reducing flange corresponds to the diameter of the other pipe in the connection.
