Blind flange have same similar function as plug or cap, all of them are used to block off a section of piping system. It is different as the others flanges, there is no hub and bore in the center.
Forged steel flange is a disc-shaped piece of equipment used to connect a pipe to fittings or valve or other component to form a pipework system. Usually flange has been attached to pipe or tube end to, and then a gasket is inserted in the middle to form a seal. Finally they are joined together with bolts and nuts.
ASME B16.5 Standard
This standard covers pressure temperature ratings, materials, dimensions, tolerances, marking, testing and methods of designating openings for pipe flanges and flanged fittings. Such as weld neck flanges, slip-on flanges, socket weld flanges, threaded flanges, blind flanges, lap joint flanges and flangolets.

Sealing Surface Types
The sealing surface types of blind flanges include include raised face (RF),Flat Face Full Face (FF), Male Face and Female Face (MFM), tongue-and-groove face (TG), and ring joint face (RJ).
Raised face sealing surface: This sealing surface has one or more protrusions on the flange to mate with the corresponding concave sealing gasket.
Flat Face Full Face sealing surface: The sealing of the planar sealing surface mainly depends on the compression force generated by the bolt connection between the flanges, and the deformation of the sealing gasket (such as rubber gasket, asbestos gasket, etc.) to fill the tiny gap between the flange surfaces, thereby achieving sealing.
Male Face and Female Face sealing surface:This sealing surface combines the characteristics of both male face and female face surfaces and is often used in applications where a very tight seal is required. male face and female face sealing gaskets can provide better sealing performance because they can better adapt to irregularities in the flange surface.
Tongue-and-groove face sealing surface: This sealing surface has a raised tongue and corresponding groove on the flange for special types of sealing gaskets, such as O-rings or tongue and groove gaskets. This design can provide a very tight seal.
Ring joint face sealing surface:The sealing surface of the ring joint has an annular groove on the flange surface, which is used to accommodate a sealing ring of a specific shape. Under the compression force generated by the bolt connection, the sealing ring is compressed and filled into the annular groove to form a tight sealing barrier.
How to Inspect A182 F304L Blind Flange
We usually adopt the production standard of ASME B16.5, in which the 1/2'' blind flange has 4 bolt holes, the diameter of the bolt holes is 5/8'', and the outer diameter of the flange is 95mm. The thickness of the blind flange is closely related to the pressure level of the pipeline system. In the high-pressure pipeline system, in order to withstand greater pressure, the blind flange needs to have a greater thickness to provide sufficient strength, so the minimum thickness of the 300# flange is 12.7mm.
The 12'' blind flange has 16 bolt holes, the maximum diameter of two bolt holes is 450.8mm, the diameter of the blind flange is 520, and the minimum thickness of the 300# is 49.3mm.
Blind flange have same similar function as plug or cap, all of them are used to block off a section of piping system. It is different as the others flanges, there is no hub and bore in the center.
