The ASTM A333 Grade 6 pipes are intended for low temperature services with minimum design temperature-45°C [-50°F]requiring notch toughness. Seamless pipes made from ASTM A333 Gr.6 are primarily used for the construction of pipelines in the production of ethylene, propylene, urea, ammonia, and N-P-K compound fertilizer. They may be involved in the scrubber, purification, desulfurization and degreasing processes in oil & gas, petrochemical, coal and pharmaceutical industries. They can also be used for the fabrication of cryogenic equipment as well as refrigeration houses.

ASTM A333 Standard Specification Scope
This specification covers nominal (average) wall seamless and welded carbon and alloy steel pipe intended for use at low temperatures and in other applications requiring notch toughness. Several grades of ferritic steel are included as listed in Table 1. Some product sizes may not be available under this specification because heavier wall thicknesses have an adverse effect on impact properties.

Phosphorus and sulfur are usually considered as impurity elements in ASTM A333 Grade 6 steel pipe. Phosphorus increases the cold brittleness of steel, and sulfur reduces the hot working properties and weldability of steel. Limiting their content to a lower level can ensure the reliability and good processing properties of the steel at low temperatures.

Elongation is a measure of a material's ability to deform plastically. A higher elongation means that the material can undergo greater plastic deformation without breaking when subjected to load, which is very important for pipelines that may be subjected to impact loads or uneven stress in low-temperature environments, as it can absorb energy through plastic deformation and prevent the pipeline from breaking suddenly.
Advantages of Low Temperature Carbon Steel Pipe
Excellent Low Temperature Performance
ASTM A333 Grade 6 pipe has excellent toughness in low temperature environment. Under low temperature conditions (such as - 45°C or even lower), it can withstand greater impact without brittle fracture.
Good Chemical Composition and Quality Stability
The chemical composition of ASTM A333 Grade 6 steel pipe is strictly controlled. This precise chemical composition control ensures that the steel pipe has stable mechanical properties and can show consistent performance in different engineering applications, reducing the risks caused by material performance fluctuations.
Wide Applicability
Low temperature carbon steel pipe is widely used in many industrial fields. In the oil and gas industry, in addition to the low temperature transportation and storage mentioned above, it can also be used for casing, tubing, etc. of oil wells to ensure the normal operation of oil wells under different temperature and pressure environments.
Good Machinability
Low temperature carbon steel pipe has good welding performance. High-quality welding can be achieved through appropriate welding processes. This steel pipe also performs well in mechanical processing. It can be cut, bent, threaded and other operations.
