Types Of Stainless Steel 304H Butt Welded Pipe Fittings

Stainless steel 304H butt welded pipe fittings are a high carbon version of stainless steel 304 material fittings, and the common American standard material is ASTM A403 WP304H. ASTM A403 is a material standard developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) for austenitic stainless steel butt welded pipe fittings. Stainless steel 304H has excellent high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance for welded pipe fittings. Its carbon content is usually between 0.04% and 0.10%, which enables it to maintain good strength and stability in high-temperature environments. Therefore, ASTM A403 WP304H stainless steel butt welded pipe fittings are commonly used in high-temperature, high-pressure, and corrosive environments, such as petroleum, chemical, power, food processing, and other fields.

According to the shape: Stainless steel 304H butt welded pipe fittings include various types such as long radius/short radius 90/45 degree elbows, steel pipe bend, equal/reduced tees, equal/reduced cross, concentric/eccentric reducers, caps, stub end, etc., which can meet the needs of different pipeline designs.

What is Stainless Steel 304H Butt Welded Pipe Fittings

Stainless steel 304H is an austenitic stainless steel, where "H" represents high carbon. The higher the carbon content, the greater the strength and hardness of the steel, but the plasticity and toughness will decrease. On the contrary, when the carbon content is low, the plasticity and toughness of the steel are better, but the strength and hardness are poorer.

304H stainless steel is a high carbon version material of 304 stainless steel, with carbon elements usually ranging from 0.04% to 0.10%. By adding a higher proportion of carbon elements, the strength and hardness of the material are improved. Carbon elements can also combine with other elements, such as silicon to form silicon carbon compounds, improving the hardness and wear resistance of the steel, and combining with chromium to form chromium carbide, further improving the corrosion resistance of stainless steel. This enables stainless steel 304H to have higher resistance to high-temperature creep in welded pipe fittings and can be used in a higher temperature range, typically reaching around 1150 ℃. Stainless steel 304H butt welded pipe fittings are widely used in various industrial fields, including heaters, furnaces, and high-temperature heat exchange equipment in the petroleum and chemical industries.

The difference between stainless steel 304H and 304

Composition: Both 304H and 304 stainless steel contain 18% chromium (Cr) and 8% nickel (Ni), but the main difference lies in the carbon content. The carbon content of 304H is relatively high, usually between 0.04% and 0.10%, while the carbon content of 304 stainless steel is relatively low, usually below 0.03%. The difference in carbon content leads to differences in performance and usage between the two.

Mechanical properties

Corrosion resistance and welding performance: Due to the increase in carbon content, the 304H stainless steel material has improved its high-temperature corrosion resistance and heat resistance, allowing the stainless steel 304H to maintain good strength and stability in high-temperature environments for welded pipe components. In addition, 304H stainless steel also has good welding performance, suitable for situations that require welding. 304 stainless steel has better corrosion resistance at room temperature, but may not perform as well as 304H in high temperature environments.

Heat Treatment

High temperature resistance performance: Stainless steel 304H has good high temperature resistance performance for welded pipe fittings, which can withstand high temperatures and pressures. Therefore, it is widely used in large boiler superheaters, steam pipelines, heat exchangers in petrochemical industries, and other fields. Stainless steel 304 butt welded pipe fittings are mainly used in general industrial, food and medical industries.

There are significant differences between stainless steel 304H and 304 butt welded pipe fittings in terms of composition, corrosion resistance, welding performance, thermal strength, and usage for welded pipe fittings. The specific choice of stainless steel welding fittings to use depends on the application environment and pipeline system requirements.
