Description of ASME Butt Weld Reducer
Usually we can define a fittings dimension in ASME standard from their description, also these data is the one we must confirm before manufacturing. After we make sure the type of fittings, we still need two in formation, the first one is size (diameter), and the second one is the thickness schedule(or real thickness).
For example, 8" X 6" SCH40 butt weld reducer. The material type is a reducer, diameter one end in 8 inches, the other end 6 inches, thickness in schedule 40 (SCH 40), but for reducers, we still need one more key information, concentric or eccentric.
Difference Between Concentric and Eccentric Reducer
Concentric Reducer
Eccentric Reducer
The main difference between them is their center lines, the concentric reducer keeps the center line in the same level between the two end, but the eccentric reducer doesn’t, one side of it keeps in am aclinic shape. We use concentric reducer most of the time, but when we need to avoid trapping air in the pipe system, we should chose the eccentric reduce.
Dimensions of 8" X 6" SCH40 Butt Weld Reducer
Below is the dimension of a 8" X 6" SCH40 butt weld reducer dimension in ASME B16.9 manufacturing standard. Usually size below 24 inches butt weld fittings we will apply the seamless one and size over that, we recommend the welded fittings.
Nominal Size | Outside Diameter at Bevel | End to End | |
DN | NPS | OD1*OD2 | H |
200*150 | 8*6 | 219*1*168.3 | 152 |
Inspections of Butt Weld Reducer
As the drawing. We will measure the two end diameter, thickness and height of the reducer, that is the dimension measurement.
For material in alloy or stainless steel , we will have a PMI test and take the picture to record, the final 3.1MTC will show the material and the test result.
