What is a ASTM A105 Hex Nipple
A nipple is a short length of pipe with male threaded end one the both sides of the pipe. It is usually used in the pipeline system to connect two pipes. Hex nipple also known as hexagonal nipple, as its name describe, it has a hex shape middle section to let it can be removed or tightened with a wrench in a easier way.
Hex nipple can be made from alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron or even no-metallic material. ASTM A105 Hex nipple is made from the most commonly used carbon steel material in American industrial standard.
Specification of Hex Nipple
Please notice that there are various standard for the hex nipple, but when the description indicate ASTM A105 Hex Nipple, there is high possibility that it should apply standard ASME B16.11, cause ASTM A105/ASME B16.11 are both complied by American association.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t use A105 material and other countries’ standard at the same time.

Types of Threads
There are two main type of the treads:parallel threads and tapered threads, their difference is that tapered ones will grow smaller when it is closer to the end of the fitting, mean while parallel threads keep the same diameter all the time. Parallel threads contains BSPP, UN/UNF, and metric coarse and tapered threads includes metric tapered, BSPT, and NPT thread/NPTF threads.
For ASTM A105threaded elbow, the threads don’t have to be NPT, you can mentioned the exact type of threads you need in your description and customize it.
