What Is a 45 Degree Elbow?
45 degree elbow is also called "45 elbow or 45 ell", and it's bending mode can change the flow direction of fluid / gas in the pipeline by 45 °. In the field of butt welding steel elbows, it looks like a half of the 90 degree elbow. Commonly, the 90 degree elbows can be a seamless elbow or a welded elbow. Bending the two ends of pipe to a angle of 45 degree, it is a 45 degree seamless elbow.
The function of a 45 Degree Long Radius Elbow is same as 90 degrees long and short elbow, but the measurement and dimensions are different to that of a 90 degree long and the short elbow. The radius of both the 45 degree and 90 Degree long and short elbow is the same however, the center to face dimension is not equivalent due to the smaller degree of bend.Compared with 90 degree elbow, 45 degree elbow produces less friction and lower pressure.
45 degree elbow widely used in chemical, food, water supply facilities, electronic industry, chemical piping, horticulture, agricultural production, solar equipment piping, air conditioning piping and many other applications.

Connection Types Classification
Butt Weld Elbow
Butt weld elbow is a steel elbow formed by hot pressing or forging. Its connection form is to directly weld the elbow and steel pipe. Butt welded elbows are mainly used for elbow with higher pressure and temperature than other connection types (socket welded elbow or threaded pipe elbow).
Socket Weld Elbow
Socket weld elbows are also welded to the ends of pipes and fittings. Unlike butt weld elbows, socket weld elbows have a trapezoidal area at the end. We can insert the pipe ends into this area and then do the welding work to join them together.
Threaded Elbow
The shape of threaded elbow is similar to the socket weld elbow, except that the inner surface of the trapezoidal area has been machined into thread. It is easier to install and remove, good for pipeline repair and maintenance.
How To Make a Steel Pipe Elbow ?
Way 1
First, we can weld the closed ends of polygonal round shells or polygonal sector shells. When the inside of the pipe is filled with pressure medium, its cross-section will change from polygonal to tubular. Under internal pressure, the cross-section will be a circular shell. Rings can be cut into 90 degree elbows or 45 degree elbows or any other size requirement. Due to technological advancements, welding processes can be used in different applications. For example, it is now possible to weld and manufacture larger diameter steel pipe elbows, especially large diameter steel pipe elbows long radius.
Way 2
You can also directly purchase seamless pipes or welded pipes as materials for steel elbows, then use a heating machine to heat the pipe body, and then push the pipe body into molds of varying degrees to form the elbow shape.
SS316L 45 Degree Elbow Material Standard
ASTM A403 WP316 is suitable for butt welding elbows, it is made up of carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus and 18% chromium, 8% nickel with 4% molybdenum. The combination provides the mechanical, chemical and physical properties to the 316 Pipe Fittings.
ASTM A182 F316L is suitable for socket weld elbow and thread elbow. It is a forging material specification for 316L grade stainless steel and is used for manufacturing bare forgings or forged and machined products for applications involving high temperature service.
