Brief introduction of Stainless Steel 316L Butt Weld Cap
Stainless steel 316L butt weld cap is one of the type of fittings, which is usually used by connecting methods of butt welding. Thus, stainless steel 316Lbutt weld cap ends can in beveled or plain. Being the final weld bead in a weld joint, caps may be completed in the form of a stringer bead or by a weaving motion back and forth.
Butt weld caps act as protective device and are designed to protect pipe ends of various shapes. Therefore, the main purpose of using pipe caps is to waterproof the connections. And they can be used to close the the ends of hydraulic or pneumatic pipes and tubes as well.
Type 316L stainless steel is a molybdenum bearing austenitic and is more resistant to general corrosion and pitting than conventional nickel chromium stainless steels such as 302-304. The “L” stands for “low” in 316L stainless steel and indicates that this kind of material contains a very low carbon content. Moreover, SS316L is widely applied in marine and construction projects because of its resistance to weld decay.
ASTM A403 WP316L Material
ASTM A403 WP316L is made up of carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus and 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel with 2-3% molybdenum. The combination provides the mechanical, chemical and physical properties to the 316 Pipe Fittings.
