What is the Stainless Steel Slip On Flange
Stainelss steel slip-on flanges are a form of flat welding flange. Flat welding is only used to weld the outer layer, not the inner layer. In general, a slip on flange, such as an ASME B16.5 Class 600 Slip On Flange, may be utilized in both medium and low-pressure pipelines.
The nominal pressure of these pipes with tapped stainless steel slip on flange is less than 2.5 MPa. Fillet welding is done after the slip-on flange with Raised Face Pn16 is put over the pipe. API 6A SO RF flanges are straight forward to use in fabricated applications.
Slip on flanges are most common type of flanges and good for lower pressure applications. It is a simple and excellent alternative to a weld neck as it does not have a weld bevel. There is no pipe schedule for reference while using, because its inside diameter is depending on the pipe outside diameter. That's good for stockist.

Types of Slip On Flange Welding
The stainless steel slip on flange can be divided into SO welding plate flange and SO welding hubbed steel pipe flange. Its mechanical characteristics are between the integral flange and the looping flange. The structure is simple, and the processing is convenient. So slip on flange welding is widely used in various fluid pipelines.
Depends on different face, there are also ranges raised face type and ring type joint face type.
Applications of Slip-on Flanges
They are mainly used for fluids at low pressure or with little risk of leakage. It is very common to find these stainless steel slip on flanges today in cooling water lines, firefighting water lines, low-pressure compressed air lines, and process lines for substances such as steam, oil, gas, condensates, etc. But always keeping in mind that the material to be distributed is at low pressure and the working conditions are not demanding.
How Do Slip-on Flanges Work
Stainless steel slip-on flanges must be slid into the pipe before welding. In this case it is a double weld, both inside and outside, thus providing the durability they need to avoid leaks. Their pressure resistance is rated at approximately 2/3 of that of a welding neck flange. Slip-on flanges are suitable for low-pressure applications and are easy to install and weld onto different pipes. In addition, welding helps to reduce manufacturing costs.
Stainless steel slip-on flanges do not require a large longitudinal space in the line to be mounted. In addition, they do not require an exact cut in the pipe, and are less difficult to align.
ASTM A182 Standard for Stainless Steel Flange
Stainless steel flange simplified as SS flange, it refers to the flanges that made of stainless steel. It used in more industries than carbon steel as stainless steel has better resistant performances on corrosion environment and always provides with a good appearance.
Specification
ASTM A182: It refers to forged and rolled alloy and stainless steel pipe flanges, fittings, valves and parts for high temperature service. And it includes several grades of austenitic and ferritic-austenitic stainless steels.
