What is ASTM A182 Socket Weld Coupling
Socket weld method is used to weld pipes and fittings including coupling, tee, reducer and elbow. ASTM A182 socket weld couplings are used to permanently join pipes that are inserted into a recess in the fitting, flange or valve. Once correctly inserted, fillet type sealing welds are applied to join the pipe to the fitting.
ASTM A182 socket weld coupling is allowed to communicate directly with each other. This can improve performance and reduce latency. Moreover, socket fitting is very flexible. It can be used to create a wide variety of applications.
In piping and plumbing, SW coupling is a very short length of pipe or tube, with a socket at one or both ends that can make two pipes joined together.
Specification
ASTM A182 socket weld coupling is available in pressure ratings of CLASS3000, 6000, and 9000. Socket weld couplings are covered under ANSI/ASME B16.11. They are available up to 4 inch nominal. Socket weld connections are available in different types such as elbow, coupling, reducer, tee, cross etc.

ASTM A182 Material of Socket Weld Coupling
ASTM A182 is a material standard that covers various grades of alloy steel and stainless steel. Common stainless steel materials, such as F304/L, F316/L, etc., suitable for manufacturing coupling. ASTM A182 socket weld coupling connect pipes through socket weld, making the connection and disassembly of pipes easier and with high pressure resistance.

Application of Socket Weld Fittings
Socket weld pipe fittings, such as couplings, elbows, tees, and reducers, can be applied in pipelines to convey toxic, flammable or expensive materials where leakage is not acceptable. Used in conjunction with ASME pipes to facilitate changes in dimensions.
