What is Butt Weld Elbow Used For
Due to the butt weld elbow is curved, it can be used to change the direction of the fluid in the piping system.
According to the bending radius, it will be divided two types, which are long radius (LR) and short radius (SR). As the degree, the most common used contains 45 degree, 90 degree and butt weld 180 degree elbow. Other degree and bend radius elbow also can be manufactured.
As the weld type, there are seamless are welded elbow. Usually, seamless butt weld elbow is more expensive than welded due to the good property.
Dimension of 180 Degree Elbow
The size range for the OD is 1/2" - 24" / DN15 - 600, and the wall thickness is SCH 10,SCH 10S, SCH 20, SCH 40,SCH 40S, STD, XS,SCH 80, SCH 80S, SCH 100, SCH 120, SCH 160, XXS
For the wall thickness, most common is SCH40 and STD

How to Calculate the Weight of 180 Degree Elbow
The weight is different for different degree elbow under the same dimension
Such as 90 degree LR 6" SCH40 butt weld elbow, the weight is 11.2kg/pc.
And for 6"SCH40 butt weld 180 degree elbow LR, the weight is 30kg/pc which is roughly equivalent to 2.5 times of 90 degree LR 6" SCH40 butt weld elbow.
Standard
The standard for butt weld elbow is ASME B16.9 which is also include butt weld tee, cap, reducer, bend, cross.
The ASME B 16.9 is set by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. B 16.9 refers to factory-made butt welding fittings. ASME B 16.9 governs scope, pressure ratings, size, marking, material, fitting dimensions, surface contours, end preparation, design proof tests, production tests, and tolerances
Face Finish
We always painting the butt weld elbow for rust protection in transit. The clients usually remove the painting and repaint with better paint when they receive the elbow. Of course, we also can paint according to client’s requirements about the paint brand, wall thickness and so on.
Package of Butt Weld Fittings
For the size of 1/2" -8" , the package type is crate.
8" -12" is Pallet, and above 12" is loose.
However, the packaging can be customized according to the customer's specific requirements.
