What is Socket Weld Fitting
Socket weld fittings is a pipe attachment detail in which a pipe is inserted into a recessed area of a valve, fitting or flange. Once correctly inserted, fillet type sealing welds are applied to join the pipe to the fitting.
Different from butt weld fittings, Socket Weld fittings are mainly used for small pipe diameters (Small Bore Piping); generally, for piping whose nominal diameter is NPS 2 or smaller.
These fittings are commonly called SW pipe fittings that include elbows, tees, cross, caps, coupling and union.
What is a Socket Weld Elbow
Class 3000 socket weld elbow is forged steel pipe fittings that used to provide direction changes in different degrees. 90° and 45° elbow is the most prevalent type. It is also an important and useful part for same or different sizes pipe connection.

Socket weld fittings generally come in three different pressure ratings, a 3000 pound, a 6000 pound, and a 9000 pound pressure class. The most common size of the socket weld fitting is from 1/2 inch up to 4 inch. All of these pressure fittings generally are not used beyond 4 inches.
