What is a class 3000 Union
Socket Weld Union
Threaded Union
Different from couplings, unions are more easily installed and dismantled by having three single parts combined together: nut, cloud head and flat connection. With the different type of end connection, there are two mail kinds of unions which are socket weld union and threaded union. Even though it is a kind of forged steel fittings , the standard for it is MSS SP-83, not ASME B16.11. Also dislike the pressure ratings in ASME B16.11, unions only have one pressure rating class 3000. That is why all unions are class 3000 union. Some times you may see class 6000 union, technically there are the same generalduty.
Specification of MSS SP-83 Class 3000 Union
Despite the difference in connection end, class 3000 union no matter it is socket weld or threaded union , it can basically be applied in the same material grade and within the same size range.
They are widely used in oil and gas /pipeline/power Industries/chemical industries because they are very convenient to install and remove.
