What is Class 6000 Socket Weld Tee
Socket weld tee is a high pressure pipe fitting in three ways which is made by being forged from round steel. They are T-shape and known as equal tee and reducing tee. It is generally applicable to pipes with nominal diameter less than NPS 2.
Class 6000 socket weld tee has a pressure rating of 6000 pound maximum pressure rating. Socket weld fittings 6000 psi are designed for use with Schedule 160 for applications with air, water, and natural gas.
Socket welds are simpler and faster to install, requiring approximately a 1/16” gap between the shoulder of the fitting and pipe end for thermal expansion. It's essential that the gap is large enough; otherwise, it can cause stress problems that crack the fillet weld of a fitting.
What is the Pressure Rating of Class 6000 Socket Weld Tee
Class 6000 socket weld tee is roughly related to the schedule 160 grade. The fittings are made to handle 6000psi of pressure. As the temperature in the CL 6000 adapters increases, their pressure holding capacity decreases.

What is the Difference Between Class 3000 and Class 6000
Class 3000 and 6000 sockets differ in material thickness. Class 3000 thickness ranges from 3/8” to 4”, while class 6000 thickness ranges from 1/2” to 4”. The Class 6000 socket has a thicker and stronger material, which makes it suitable for high-pressure applications.
ASME Standard for Socket Weld Fittings
ASME B16.11 is the standard for the forged steel fittings, including socket weld and threaded type. Material including carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel. Also described as Class 3000, 6000, and 9000 for socket weld end fittings and Class 2000, 3000, 6000 threaded end fittings.
Inspection
1. Visual the surface of socket weld fittings such as dents, die marks, porosity.
2. Check the marking such as size, grade, pressure, standard.
3. Measure dimensions such as outside diameter, thickness, socket dimensions.
4. Test the chemical composition of stainless steel tees.
