What Is ASTM A335 P22 pipe ?
A335/SA335 grade P22 alloy steel seamless pipe are carbon steel tubes with chromium, molybdenum, and sometimes vanadium added. Chromium or chromium can improve high temperature strength, increase oxidation resistance and improve tensile strength, yield strength and hardness at room temperature. The chemical composition in P22 seamless pipes are carbon 0.05-0.15%, manganese from 0.30-0.60%, silicon up to 1%, chromium up to 2.6%, and molybdenum and silicon like other small elements for the chemical balance. An Alloy Steel Pipe is used in applications which require moderate corrosion resistance properties with good durability and at an economical cost. To simply put it, alloy pipes are preferred in those areas where carbon steel pipes may fail. There are two classes of alloy steels - high alloys and low alloy steels.
ASTM A335 P22 Chemical Composition
CHEMICAL | LIMITS | C | Mn | P | S | Si | Cr | Mo |
ASTM A335 P22 | MIN | 0.05 | 0.30 | 1.90 | 0.87 | |||
MAX | 0.15 | 0.60 | 0.025 | 0.025 | 0.50 | 2.60 | 1.13 |
Mechanical Properties
MATERIAL | T.S (MPA) | Y.S (MPA) | EL % |
ASTM A335 P22 | 415 min | 205 min | 30 min |
Advantage
High Temperature Resistance
Corrosion Resistance
High Strength
Good Weldability
Uniform Performance
Application
ASTM A335 seamless steel pipes are popular in high temperature applications due to their high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, high strength, good weldability, uniform performance and cost effectiveness. Its combined properties make it ideal for a variety of high-temperature and high-pressure applications, especially in the power generation, chemical processing, and oil and gas industries.
